SomersetSomerset is synonymous with Cider and Cheddar cheese, and a place many of us travel through to get to our holidays in Devon or Cornwall, or of course everyone will be hearing about Glastonbury, but Somerset has a lot more to offer.

I thought it worth highlighting why it’s such a fantastic place to stop and enjoy some of the finest farm produce.

For our listings and review of Somerset Farm shops, please take a look at our page on Farm Shops in Somerset

Travel South of Bath and you’ll find White Row Country Foods near Frome, great shop with some of the finest veg on offer, and pigs wandering around in the mud right next to the car park! They sell purple cauliflower which is always very good too.

Alternatively head South West of Bath on the A37 and you’ll find Farrington’s Farm Shop at Farrington Gurney - great presentation, a lot of black and white cow patterned items everywhere, and some very tasty fillet steak on sale, be sure to purchase a large quantity, it works out quite reasonable.

Somerset-CiderNext, we go to towards Shepton Mallet - Home of the Gaymer Cider Factory…

Glastonbury, and Taunton follow, Taunton is famous for Blackthorn Cider!

P.s If you pass through Sandford on the A368, near J21 M5, Thatchers Cider have their own shop, and their Cider is very very drinkable, although obviously not whilst driving - we’re keen advocates of Road Safety here at Farm Shopper.

Also please look at http://www.somersetfood.org/links.htm#farmshops for more in depth information about somerset food, eating out, recipes and more.

I hope nobody from Somerset is offended by me including this little clip, I am from Wiltshire so I’m certainly not deriding the accent, he seems like the sort of Farmer you could have an amusing chat with?

I once did a paper round, and the only people up at that time of day were hard working farmers who liked a good chat - I was always interested in what they had to say, and miss them now that they’ve disappeared from the village I lived in, if only one of them had been able to set up a successful farm shop..
